In many circumstances, immigrants are able to get permission to work or
continue working, even after the government has charged them with removal.
Since deportation proceedings can drag on for many months or even years
in some cases, it is hard for immigrants who are subject to these charges
to not be able to work and support themselves and their families. Federal
immigration laws acknowledge and recognize the hardships posed by an inability
to work, and, therefore, there are provisions in the Immigration and Nationality
Act that allow an immigration in this position to legally work. For instance,
if you are using one of the following claims as a defense in your deportation
proceedings and are otherwise eligible to do so, then you might also be
eligible to work pending the deportation proceedings:
